Chicken
At our small family farm in Danville Kentucky, we take pride in our approach to pastured poultry. Our chickens lead happy, healthy lives, with plenty of room to roam outdoors. They eat green grass, bugs and scratch - living a chickens best life! We don't use GMOs, hormones, or antibiotics in their feed. Instead, they receive a special grain ration that's natural and free from artificial additives. This results in chicken that's not only delicious but also better for you.
We raise two different breeds of chickens, Freedom Ranger and Cornish Cross. The Cornish Cross is a white bird, most common on poultry farms today. It grows very quickly and produces tender, juicy meat. The Freedom Ranger, a red bird, was developed for the French Free Range Label from heritage meet breeds in America and Europe. Freedom Rangers are very active and great foragers, making them ideal for farms that raise chickens on pasture, like ours. They are a slow-growing chicken, taking more than twice as long to mature than the Cornish. They also produce less meat than the Cornish bird, but Freedom Ranger meat has distinct, rich flavor and great yellow fat that cooks wonderfully. Many high-end restaurants exclusively serve this breed of chicken that you won't find at a grocery store. We love them and think you will too!
